Friends of Haiti began medical missions in 2001 by providing free or low cost medical care twice a year utilizing volunteer doctors and nurses. Twelve missions have been completed with the Spring 2007 trip.. Work is done at a clinic in Thomazeau, Haiti in cooperation with the local doctor. During the year sufficient medical supplies and donations are collected to serve 3,000 - 4,000 persons per mission. Medical supplies are left with the local doctor for follow-up. Money is donated for the cost of surgeries at Haitian hospitals. Funds are also used to bring children to the United States for surgery. In the future the organization hopes to do prevention and sponsor people in Haiti in the field of health care to facilitate self sufficiency.
Clinic sites in Spring 2007 were: Thomazeau, Noyau, Plaisances, and Grand Boulage. Mahotiere has also been a clinic site in the pages. Some sites were added to make care more accessible to the mountain people.
